The Problem

Running behind on your books costs more than just time.

For most small business owners, bookkeeping is the task that gets deferred, week after week, until it becomes a crisis. By the time tax season arrives, you are spending hours reconstructing records instead of running your business. And if the CRA comes calling, disorganised or incomplete books are the fastest route to penalties, interest, and a very stressful few months.

Good bookkeeping is not just about keeping records. Done properly, it gives you a real-time view of your cash position, flags problems before they escalate, and ensures that every deductible expense is captured. At Johri CPA, our bookkeeping service is CPA-managed from the start, not handed off to a junior clerk and reviewed once a year.

  • Falling behind and losing track of expenses

When bookkeeping falls weeks or months behind, deductions get missed, invoices go unpaid, and the true financial position of the business becomes impossible to read. Catch-up work is always more expensive than staying current.

  • Messy records triggering a CRA review

The CRA cross-references HST filings, T4 remittances, and corporate tax returns. Inconsistencies and missing documentation are the primary triggers for audits and review requests. Clean, reconciled records are the first line of defence.

  • Not knowing if the business is actually profitable

Many business owners have a rough sense of revenue but no clear picture of margins, cash flow, or where money is being lost. Without current financial statements, you are making decisions without the numbers that should be driving them.

  • Using the wrong person for bookkeeping

A bookkeeper who is not supervised by a CPA may record transactions correctly but miss the tax implications. Errors in how income is categorised, how GST/HST is applied, or how shareholder draws are treated can create significant problems at year-end.

The cost of bookkeeping depends on your transaction volume, the complexity of your accounts, whether payroll is included, and how current your records are. Most small businesses fall into a straightforward monthly or quarterly package, and we provide a fixed-fee quote after a free consultation so you know exactly what to budget before committing. There are no hourly surprises.

Bookkeeping is the day-to-day recording and organising of financial transactions: income, expenses, payments, and reconciliations. Accounting involves interpreting that data: preparing financial statements, analysing performance, planning for tax, and advising on financial decisions. At Johri CPA, your bookkeeping is managed by trained professionals and reviewed by a licensed CPA, so you get both the clean records and the meaningful insight from a single team.

Most of our bookkeeping clients never set foot in an office. We connect your accounts through QuickBooks Online or Xero, you share documents and receipts digitally, and we communicate by phone or email. If you prefer to meet in person at our Woodbridge, Brampton, or Kitchener office, that is available too. The process works either way.

Yes, and this is genuinely one of the most common situations we encounter. We call it catch-up bookkeeping. We start by assessing how far back the records go and what source documents are available, then we reconstruct and reconcile everything systematically. Once the catch-up is complete, we transition to an ongoing monthly service so it never happens again. We do not judge the starting point: we just fix it.

We work primarily with QuickBooks Online and Xero, both of which are cloud-based and allow us to access your books securely without you needing to send files back and forth. If you are currently using a different platform, we can assess whether it makes sense to migrate or continue with what you have. We set up the software correctly for your business type and train any staff who need to use it.

At year-end, we prepare a complete closing file including all final reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and supporting schedules. This package is then passed directly to our CPA tax team, who prepares your T2 corporate return or T1 self-employment schedule. Because the same firm handles both your bookkeeping and your tax filing, nothing gets lost in translation, your year-end is faster, and there are no duplicate fees for a second accountant to review work already done.

Clean, current books are the foundation of an accurate and efficient tax filing. When your records are properly maintained throughout the year, your year-end tax return takes far less time to prepare, every deductible expense has been captured, and there are no surprises about what you owe. Disorganised books, on the other hand, lead to missed deductions, extended preparation time, and higher accounting fees. Our bookkeeping and tax services work together by design.

Stop doing your own books. Start running your business.

Your time is worth more than data entry. Let Johri CPA handle your bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting so you can focus on what you actually built your business to do. Book a free consultation and we will tell you exactly what a managed bookkeeping service looks like for your specific situation.
